Philippine Bar Examination Tips

The bar examination is a test of knowledge in the philosophy of law and the Philippine law as a whole. I myself had already taken two bar examinations last 2005 and 2006 but I failed both of them. I got a grade of 71 and 73 respectively for both examinations. I thought when I took the bar last 2006 I already made it but the result tells otherwise. For one month then I felt depress and I thought God was very unfair to me. Then I realize that this is not the end of the world. So I have to move on. I adopt a new hobby of angling/fishing and then study for the MBA at Ateneo De Naga University. By adopting this hobbies I have move and relieved myself from the depression. Until now I am happy fishing around the Bicol Region coastal areas and rivers. With regards to my MBA I already finished my academic subjects and I am now finishing my thesis. But I have to postponed my thesis preparation and making until the 2nd semester of this year. I have to take my bar examination this coming September 2009 and be a lawyer next year 2010. I have to take my chance again and let the supreme being permit me to pass such great endeavor of my life.

Now that I am reviewing for the bar examination, I do it in a relax manner and doing the things I do regularly. I do believe that changing my routine will do me harm than good. Just like what I did before when I took the two bar examinations, I pressured myself and to the point of overdoing it. The result was also a disaster. Other bar examinees and flunkers said that the examiners are just human, they also commit errors while checking our examinations booklets. But that reasons is not a good alibi we have to exert our best efforts in preparing for the bar and make a good impression in answering the tricky questions given by our examiners.

What I observed in the past two bar examinations that I took, that the examiner would like to know if we are using our common senses with regards the laws that we learned from our studies. If he witness and find the keywords in our answers to bar questions that he gave, he will give us the proper grade to the corresponding correct answers.

Most of the bars questions are based on real life situations and asking what remedies should we apply given in such situations. What makes the bar examinations difficult are additional facts that are not relevant to the case. Examiners are fun of using so many adjectives and nouns that are not relevant and material to such situation. So we examinee got confused then panic, the result is out of order in answering the bar questions.

The only thing we could do is relax, analyze the question, state the correct law, and conclude your answers. It maybe simple but hard to do. I always remember the motto of Frank D. Roosevelt when he said even if there is crisis, he always maintain "Grace under Pressure". Why we should maintain grace, because the bar questions is simple but tricky. The trickiness of the questions is the flavor in our bar examination.

It put to test our personality and attitude to the extreme, even to the brink of falling or collapsing it. We should learn to compose and manage ourselves. Because our knowledges in law is intact in our brain, but ones our body did not cooperate to our brain or synchronize to each other, the result will be otherwise. In the process of reviewing for the bar we have to prepare our body in four aspects which are physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. We should be in control to ourselves.

One lawyer said that when he took the bar, he proclaimed himself as a lawyer. When he was answering the bar questions, he answered it as a lawyer and not as a student. After that he passed the bar and been proclaimed has a legitimate lawyer by the Supreme Court en banc.

Fellow examinees to this September 2009 bar examination, I wish you good luck, good health, and good fortune. Congratulation.

Mabuhay tayong lahat.
